NFC Perfect XI
Ex-President's (Jose Lopera) Perfect NFC XI
Goalkeeper
Paco Leal
Originally a left midfielder/Striker but once Paco put on
the gloves at NFC history was made. Great reflexes and was still playing
great football until just recently. Great friend off the field.
Right-back
Pat Orchard
He was a strong player, a real man. He played a big role in
getting our 2008 team to Grand Final. He was most affective at corners and
scored some classic back post headers. He will be a great influence on the
team this year, what he is playing AFL this year. I still stand by my
comment will be a huge influence.
Central-defence
Frank Corujo
Not many know Frank but he helped me a great deal when I
played at NFC in the 80's. His great skills were matched by his great
ability to party off the field. Now playing for the great Kambah Rovers and
his skills are still evident today both on and off the field
Central-defence
Vince Ruiz
A take no prisoner defender, a great reader of the game. Was great in the
air and could play the ball out the back like no other. Would hate to go
into a 50/50 challenge against him. Still playing with Kambah Rovers.
Left-back
Miguel De Cos
A great reader of the game and would be able to play a 50 yard ball to
your feet all day long. Had a few injuries that hurt his career but will
always be remembered by his dads famous whistle.
Right-midfield
Pep Ruiz
A lot of people only remember his jokes, but he was a
wonderful footballer. We played together at NFC in the 80's and it was an
absolute pleasure. He had such vision and could get the ball where he
wanted and created so many goals for me. He was a very generous player, he
never thought about himself.
Central-midfield
Robin Lanza
Do I need to say why? He was the best in midfield; he could play
everywhere. He could play the holding role and be defensive, but then he
could suddenly burst forward and score goals. He was so intelligent in how
he played the game and let me tell you, it felt good to have him in the
team.
Central-midfield
Robbie Grande
Fantastic heart and appetite for the game. A great leader on the park and
it was a pity that knee injuries cut short his playing days. A small player
in height but the biggest set of cajones I have seen on the field.
Left-midfield
Sergio Fleitas
Serge would have to play out of position on the left of midfield. The
greatest thing about Serge is that he is Serge, fantastic footballer with
all the skills in the world, the best workrate and attitude I have seen.
Off the field Serge is best person you could hope to meet and count as a
friend
Striker
David Arquero
Hard as nails but with superb skills. David was an inspiration to me when
I joined NFC. David was the hardest working striker to play for NFC. His
biggest attribute was that he worked for the team and never gave up.
Striker
Pep Lopera
Sorry but I have to include myself in the team, because (A) im President
and (B) it would be great to play in the side that contains so many great
players.
Coach
Tony Romero
Tony was way ahead of the times whilst coaching at NFC in the 80's. If he
had this team back then NFC would still be in the Premier League winning
titles. Some of Tony's thoughts of the game still have a influence on my
coaching to this day.
Subs
Mase Tate
The most elegant defender to ever pull on a NFC shirt.
Martin Fernandez
Sensational on the ball and great to watch.
Jose Exposito Snr
Best striker of the ball NFC has ever had, once he hit a ball keepers
around the league would crap themselves.
