Masters Victorious
Six-a-Side 2010 Summer Comp
The Annual Outdoor Six-a-Side competition drew to an end last night with
our Masters side taking out all honours. After going through the
competition with only one loss they topped the field as Minor Premiers.
The semi final against Saints 2 was played hard and fast and at times quite
spiteful as both teams tried to out-muscle the other team for possession.
Our Old Bulls dominated however and were by far the most attacking team on
the park. It was one of our ex-players Pep Lopera in goals for the Saints
that kept them in the game by pulling off save after save. Our defence
however made sure we didn't lose on the counter and Mase, Kael, Davor and
David (Tree trunk legs) were in fine form in the back making sure Sean
(Keeper) hardly got a touch. Blistering runs by Matt and Johnny (mad dog)
kept the forwards fed nicely the whole game. It was one of these attacking
runs by Emi pushing the ball wide to Mad Dog who crossed the ball with
pin-point accuracy right onto Matt's feet who beat the keeper out of
position (rare) to slot the ball in. The game ended 1 - 0 but a barrage of
chances all went begging.
The final in direct contrast was played in exceptional spirit with some
very good soccer being played by both sides. The Kambah Old Boys having
some 10 years or more on average on NFC didn't show their age by keeping
our Old Bulls at bay for most of the game with great defensive efforts.
Again it was NFC who had the monopoly on the attack but faced a very
capable defensive team. The first half saw one goal only by Mad Dog who
pressured the keeper managing to extract the ball from his feet and shoot
into an open goal. The second half saw more opportunities but it was Mad
Dog night (I believe the full moon was out) and he again pressured the
defence to win the ball and again put the ball in the back of the net. Goal
number 3 was well constructed and after Matt had successfully beat the
keeper with a lob, Davor made sure the slow ball made the back of the net
with a running header. Full time and our Old Bulls were victorious with a 3
- 0 win to take the double.
CONGRATS Old Bulls!
Lest we forget Mick W who couldn't make the final due to family commitments
and Mickey D who was out with injury but was there to support the team.
